During his ministry, Jesus went to the fringes of society. He hung out with people who weren't a part of the religious “in” crowd: individuals who for various reasons were not included or welcomed in traditional religious spaces. Jesus wasn’t afraid of questions, and instead of pushing people away from religion he provided them with a space to re-explore faith, as well as the sustenance needed to make it through the day and the healing they needed to reconnect to their community.

With Jesus, you didn’t need to “believe” or have all the "right answers.” Even Jesus’ disciples, who were a part of his inner circle, were not always sure what they believed about him. Jesus used storytelling to teach his followers, and he wasn’t afraid of asking people what his stories might mean to them.

At The Fringe you are already IN. You don’t need to be anything specific or believe anything in particular to be included in this community. We care about the health and well-being of the people of Lawrence, Kansas, and are committed to finding ways to serve and promote the flourishing of all. This community seeks to approach the biblical text and faith with curiosity. We ask a lot of questions and share the stories of our lives as we seek to find a connection between real life and the biblical text.
